Anet A8 – 3D Printer

What is the Anet A8?

The Anet A8 is a really cheap china clone of the famous Prusa i3 MK2 which was designed by Josef Prusa.
Its qualitiy and precision is really good for a 3D printer in this price category!
It keeps up with 3D printers which can be bought for around 1.000 – 2.000 € back here in Germany.

The Anet A8 can be purchased at GearBest for arount 160 €.
I received the Anet A8 Desktop 3D Printer Prusa i3 DIY Kit within 4 weeks, however I ordered it during christmas and new years holidays.

The frame is made out of acrylic plates which are simply hold together by M3 screws. The engraving working area is 220 x 220 x 240 mm which includes heating platform is made of aluminum and allows therefore to print temperature sensitive materials e.g ABS.

The single nozzle (0.4 mm diameter) reaches a layer thickness between 0.1 – 0.3 mm and high resolutions with its XY-axis positioning accuracy of 0.012mm
and Z-axis positioning accuracy of 0.004mm.

The filament diameter must be choosen to be 1.75mm.
Further supporting material should be ABS,Luminescent,Nylon PVA,PLA,PP,Wood

The 3D models can be load onto the includes micro SD card.
Besides a USB connection between a Raspberry Pi and the Anet A8 Mainboard allows for remote control via Octoprint on a local webserver.


In order to achieve higher qualitiy in prints the RepRap idea of self replicating printers leads to the idea of printed upgrades.

The first upgrade was a semi-circle nozzle fan by Ikcognito.
It should cool down the material as soon as its printed. Through its semi-circular form, a perfect air stream from 180° was achieved which increased the print quality.
